Spring Plant Sale

A Wing Haven Plant sale is really for the birds! Our Nursery Shop is bursting at the seams with unique plants, tools, and gifts for your garden and home. We have an incredible selection of plants—unusual shrubs, antique roses, herbs, perennials, native plants, groundcovers, bulbs, and more. Plus our volunteers can give you plenty of advice on how to make them flourish. All proceeds benefit Wing Haven, a Charlotte treasure since 1927.
An itemized plant list will be available in late March.

A Mother's Day Tradition!!! Spend an afternoon…or two…visiting six private gardens and become inspired as you learn how others have tackled our Carolina clay to create a garden.

Join Andrea Sprott for a guided walk through the Lawrence Garden as Autumn gives way to Winter. Bring a notepad and meet at the entrance to the garden on the first Saturday of the month. Free with garden admission.

Holiday Program at the Mint on Randolph
Wednesday, November 2 featuring Haskell Eargle from 10 - 11:30 am Cost: $5 (non-members $10)
Known for his wit and creativity, Haskell will show you how to create designs that will last throughout the season.

Mostly French: One Piano, Four Hands
featuring Diann Clark & Bill Gouge Friday, September 30 from 6 - 7:30 pm
Sharing Mrs. Clarkson’s Steinway, the four hands of pianists Diann Clark and Bill Gouge will entertain us with a “Mostly French” musical program featuring works by Debussy, Poulenc and Faure. The evening will conclude with a few favorites from “My Fair Lady”.
Diann Clark is Music Associate/Organist at Providence Baptist Church. She moved to Charlotte in September 2007 from the Washington DC metro area where she frequently performed with Chamber groups, large vocal ensembles and soloists. As staff accompanist for Carolina Voices, Diann plays the Main Stage Choir and Festival Singers. Additionally, she plays for the Women’s Chamber Choir at Queens University.
Bill Gouge is active in the Charlotte music scene. He is Organist and Director of Music at Central United Methodist Church in Concord and the principal Accompanist for the Charlotte Children’s Choir. He has worked with Opera Carolina, Carolina voices, Vox, One Voice and Renaissance. Bill is a graduate of Queens College and was the winner of the Queens College Performance Award.
Brian Caldwell on Mrs. Clarkson's Steinway

Back by popular demand! Here's your opportunity to enjoy Brian performing Broadway tunes, Hollywood favorites, Latin boleros, and popular songs, in an easy listening/light jazz style.
Brian Caldwell has supplied background music in night clubs, for receptions, and other events. When Brian--owner of two businesses Terra Bella (a supplier of high-end Italian terra cotta) and Potina (a garden statuary wholesale company)--wants to relax, he tends his garden or plays his grand piano. "The piano is my golf course. I'm not an accomplished or classically trained pianist," says Brian "but I've been playing since I was five years old and can usually find a few tunes that make people smile and generally feel good about the particular moment and life in general."

Reeve Coobs on Acoustic Guitar Friday, May 13, 6 - 7:30 pm
Reeve Coobs is a singer-songwriter who creatively blends folk, pop, country, and rock into an original sound of her own. Her lyrics are smart and real, and her voice is rich and haunting. Her thoughtful lyrics and voice joined with her tasteful guitar playing make for an extremely rare talent. In 2005 Reeve won the Creative Loafing of Charlotte Reader’s Pick award for Best Female Vocalist. Tonight Reeve will play mostly cover songs with a few of her originals thrown in. Will Young on Mrs. Clarkson's Steinway Friday, May 20, 6 - 7:30 pm
Will Young will entertain us with a variety of music ranging from classical to pop standards to music from the “big Band” era. Will is the Associate Director of Music Ministries at Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. He assists in all aspects of the church’s music program, including serving as Principal Organist and Director of the Youth Choir. Will received the Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from Birmingham-Southern College and a Masters in Organ Performance and Church Music from the Indiana University School of Music.
Peter deVries on Violin Thursday, June 2, 6 - 7:30 pm
Peter has appeared as a soloist and recitalist in much of the United States and throughout Portugal with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra (national symphony of Portugal), the Porto Classical Orchestra, and the Aveiro Filharmonia Orchestra, among others. His piano trio, the Lisbon International Trio, recently performed the Beethoven Triple Concerto with John Nelson conducting the Armenian Nat’l Symphony in Yerevan. He has performed with such artists as Josef Gingold, James Buswell, Andres Cardenas, Franco Gulli, Harvey Phillips, Joseph Robinson, and Charles Webb. His chamber music groups have appeared in the Carnegie Recital Hall with critical acclaim from the New York Times and won honors at the prestigious international Coleman Chamber Music Auditions in Pasadena, California.

Summer Solstice: A Toast to the Season Tuesday, June 21, 6 - 7:30 pm
Bring a picnic supper and toast the longest day of the year as we enjoy a playlist of summer classics in the Main Garden! Wing Haven’s Vitex—our national champion tree—will be tonight's main act. The vitex should be in full bloom as spring gives way to summer. Greet the summer with a glass of wine or cool beer as you listen to your favorite summer tunes. We'll provide cookies and ice cream for dessert!

Wing Haven Travels to Charlottesville!
May 9 - 12, 2011 This trip is full! The Wing Haven Travel Committee has prepared an itinerary that will take us to landmark historic properties as well as private homes in the rich farmland and hunt country of Albemarle County.
