Fall 2010 Children's Classes
A Bunny's Garden Ages 4 - 6
Thursday, September 9, 3:45 - 4:45 pm Cost: $10 Join us in the children’s garden to learn about rabbits in the wild! We’ll look for rabbits in the garden and plant a new fall crop of lettuces and vegetables for the bunnies at Wing Haven.
Skulls, Scats, Antlers and Tracks a participatory workshop for children & adults with Naturalist Christopher Baldwin
Saturday, September 18th 10:30 am No charge--but, please register in advance! Have you ever come across an animal skull or mandibles while hiking and wished that you could identify your find? Join Christopher Baldwin for an informative workshop and learn how read the clues to determine which animal belongs to your skull. By the end of the morning, you’ll have the skills to identify many animal skulls. In fact, you’ll even have the opportunity to use your new knowledge to identify an actual skull. The birds are flying south for the winter! We will learn about their travels and help them fuel up for the big trip by putting out some treats! We might even see some birds that are already on their journey!

All of our vegetables in the children’s garden have been harvested and eaten! Help us replenish our beds by planting some vegetables we can enjoy throughout winter.

All of our flowers in the children’s garden are past their prime! Help us replenish our garden by planting flowers we can enjoy throughout the winter season.
Furry Friends! Ages: 3 - 5

Let’s learn about some of the small animals that call Wing Haven home. How did they get their names and how do they stay safe during the cold winter months? We’ll also help them prepare for the upcoming winter by putting out treats.
Halloween at Wing Haven All Ages

Cost: Free... but please register in advance!
Join us in the children’s garden for our fall open house. Wear your favorite costume and come for a festive time! We’ll decorate a pumpkin to get in the Halloween spirit and celebrate the season! This program is free and open to all, but space is limited so let us know you’re coming by calling the Wing Haven offices at 704-331-0664!
Autumn Art! Ages 4 - 6

Let’s collect some beautiful fall foliage to make some fabulous art. We will learn why the leaves are changing colors and also experiment with different ways to turn nature into art!
Surprise Spectacle of Spring Bulbs! Ages 4 - 6

Wing Haven needs your help to plant some bulbs that will provide us a suruprise burst of color next spring. We will also plant a bulb to take home that bring an early spring surprise to your home!
Thanksgiving Gourds! Ages 4 - 6

Gourds are a symbol of the Thanksgiving season, but they aren't just for the centerpiece of your dining table! Come make a warm place for the birds to take shelter during the cold winter months.
